Hot Off the Needles

Tara finished the Transitus Hat by Laura Nelkin.  She used Plucky Scholar in the Gizmo colorway.  She likes this hat so much that she started another!

Ashley finished the Watercolor Heart Pillow by Jodi Rice.  She used Noro Silk Garden and Rowan Kid Classic.  Ashley will teach an intarsia class at Woolworks using this design.

Ashley has the sewing bug.  Seven years ago she started a mini-quilt and she finally finished and framed it!

Ashley loves foundation paper piecing.  She completed the “Truth” square by HappySewLucky on Etsy.

What We Are Working On:

Tara also caught the sewing bug!  Because Tara is a sewing newbie, she signed up for the Garment Construction Series at Domesticity, a new fabric store in Baltimore.  Domesticity offers a variety of classes for novice to experienced sewers.  The teachers and owner of the shop are phenomenal!  If you are in the Baltimore area, you should check this place out!

Tara is making the Shirt Number 1 by Sonya Philip of 100 Acts of Sewing.

Tara is making the Willow Tank Dress by Grain Line Studio.  She is taking a class with Renee Samuels, AKA Miss Celie’s Pants.

Tara has also completed several zippered pouches.

As far as knitting goes, Tara is testing the Caragh Sweater by Laura Nelkin.  This sweater will be published on Ravelry in mid-September.  Tara is using Arranmore Light in the Narin colorway by the Fibre Company.

Ashley is working on the Pink Poodle Scarf from Morehouse Designs.  She is using Finley Fingering by Three Irish Girls.

Ashley and the Pink Poodle Scarf.

Ashley is chugging along on the Brighton Plaid blanket.

Ashley started Knitting Pure and Simple’s Children’s Neck Down Cardigan for her son, William.  She is using Spud and Chloe Sweater in the Manatee (dark blue) and Lake (bright aqua) colorways.  She is knitting the largest size.

Ashley hopes to cast on the Campside Cardigan by Alicia Plummer.  She will use a DK Madeline Tosh.

Sad Knitting Tragedies:

Tara had to frog a good portion of the Caragh Sweater because she distrusted her swatch and chose the wrong needle.

Tara purchased one skien from Destination Yarns in the Postcard Base, colorway: Toes in the Sand.

Ashley destashed 1/4 of her yarn!  Wow!  She then bought Nox Yarn Advent Calendar.

Old Bay on Everything:

Ashley and Tara visited the Baltimore Farmer’s Market together.

William and Old Bay Cheddar Cheese!

Introductions! And, what exactly is a (mis)adventure in knitting?

Welcome to our blog!  We are so excited that you found your way here and decided to “hang out” with us!  This blog will detail information found in our tri-weekly podcast, “misadventures in knitting”, and will be a way to communicate during the weeks when we do not broadcast.

So, how about we introduce ourselves!  We are Tara and Ashley, two friends from Baltimore, MD, who share an over-the-moon love for knitting and yarn.  We work together at our local yarn store, Woolworks.  One evening in December 2016, after the customers left and the “closed” sign hung in the door, the idea of a knitting related podcast was born.  It was just a pipe-dream at first, but we both grew more serious and decided to make it a reality.

The podcast is called (mis)adventures in knitting because between the two of us, we seem to have a lot of them!  We are constantly tempted by new yarns, patterns and trends.  While we already have seven projects on the needles, we want to cast on the newly released shawl topping Ravelry’s “hot right now” list.  We own enough yarn to fill a decent sized yarn shop, but we lust for new colors, shades, and blends of fiber, driving our husbands and loved ones a bit crazy.  Our (mis)adventures spill into other creative outlets, with both of us wanting to get our hands on sewing machines and spinning wheels!

And of course, our biggest (mis)adventure, is sharing our love of knitting through the podcast and blog.  We hope you enjoy it!  This is new for us and if you listened to our first episode, you probably sensed some nervous excitement!  In our opinion, there is no friendlier place to be than the knitting and fiber community.  We hope our podcast lends itself to two-way communication, where you feel comfortable introducing yourself and your own (mis)adventures.  You can find our group on Ravelry and other updates on Instagram under the names misadventuresinknitting .
